David Calmonson talks to Commodity Point
Contigo's very own David Calmonson, was invited to speak in the Leaders in CTRM Technology series run by Commodity Point. The interview was held at the recently attended E-World in Essen, Germany.
David shares his views on:
Following a successful visit in 2011 and many previous years, we decided I should have another two days of practicing my pigeon German (...taube Deutsch??) 40 years since studying this language and I can still order a beer and, weirdly, a pineapple ... ‘ananas’ being the first word our somewhat eccentric German teacher taught us.
Prior to the visit we emailed 550 or so exhibitors, receiving quite a few responses asking to meet up. Before the email blast I’d arranged a number of sessions with organisations I’d met in earlier trips – a mixture of potential clients and prospective partners. In earlier years my visits were less structured and whilst they had yielded numerous contacts, nothing substantive. The advanced preparation really paid off. We have an Austrian organisation who wants to sign a sales/implementation/support partnership agreement with us - they have planned a visit to the UK this month to sort out the details. Whilst a small organisation, they have an impressive client list and believe there are some excellent prospects for enTrader amongst them.
A German based international consultancy has also indicated they would like to form a relationship with us. They already supply SCADA and SAP systems to energy clients but are lacking a portfolio management solution to complete their footprint. Having searched for a couple of years, they see enTrader, due to its modern technology, API and wealth of functionality an ideal fit. We have already responded to an ITT from their Polish branch for a carbon trading system and are hopeful of progress.
In addition, two good portfolio management opportunities with Statwerke have resulted from the visit as well as many new contacts.
So my German has finally come in useful! Fortunately the vast majority of attendees spoke brilliant English, putting me to shame. Just as well as there was no market for pineapples!
