Compagnie Nationale du Rhône

27/Oct/2011 - Sally Procter

CNR Logo

Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR) are France’s second largest electricity generator. The company designed and operates 19 hydro power stations along the Rhône valley, south of France. CNR also use wind farms and solar plant to complete their portfolio and produces nearly 15TWh of electricity per year from 100% renewable sources. This accounts for 4% of the French energy market and powers just over 6 million homes.

CNR looked to enter the UK energy market and establish access to the UK-France energy inter-connector, that would allow them to export electricity from their generators in the Rhone Valley.

In order to make this aim a reality, CNR were required to complete stringent Central Volume Allocation (CVA) testing by Elexon. The company chose Contigo’s enVoy software for its ability to handle intra-market communications with the UK market operator.

When reviewed by CNR, enVoy provided the most comprehensive capabilities for managing ECVA, by providing management by exception alerting, full position reconciliation, and the ability to directly interface with 3rd party trading systems. Contigo provided the turnkey solution for market entry, as well as the system implementation and configuration.
